Luke 15:11:32
“He also said, “A man had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he distributed the assets to them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living. After he had spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he had nothing. Then he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. He longed to eat his fill from the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one would give him anything. When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have more than enough food, and here I am dying of hunger! I’ll get up, go to my father, and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired workers.”’ So he got up and went to his father. But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father told his servants, ‘Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Then bring the fattened calf and slaughter it, and let’s celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found! ’ So they began to celebrate. “Now his older son was in the field; as he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. So he summoned one of the servants, questioning what these things meant. ‘Your brother is here,’ he told him, ‘and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’ “Then he became angry and didn’t want to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him. But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your assets with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’ “‘Son,’ he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’””
Luke 15:11-32 CSB
Some have heard of the prodigal son story that I just quoted out of Luke 15. For those of you don't this was a story about a son who strayed from his father and then returned.
You may have heard the term "you're too far gone" but sis I'm here to tell that is the number one lie of the enemy to keep you bound. Perhaps you're reading this because you've strayed from God, perhaps it's because you feel guilt, shame, condemnation with your sins, perhaps you felt unworthy of God, perhaps you feel isolated, perhaps you felt you want to backslide and go back to your old ways, perhaps you're wondering why God feel distant, perhaps you wondering why you feel empty etc. I'm not sure which resonated with you the most or if I'm even close to how you feel right now or how you've been feeling. Maybe nobody told you this before but let me start by saying God doesn't love you any less right now. He loves you the same, today, tomorrow & yesterday.
Hebrews 13:8
King James Version
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
The word prodigal means to spend money or resources freely and recklessly; wastefully extravagant. In other words a person who lacks self-control, lacks insight from God, idolizes possessions, etc. Money can be an idol when misused and put above God. In fact anything can be an idol when put above God. An idol is simply anything that consumes your mind , that sits in the throne of your heart. Only God is to set on the throne of our hearts. Most people wander from the faith because of money because of all these opportunities that we have nowadays we have everything at our fingertips and as long as we have the money 99% time we get what we want without even undergoing insight from God if this was His will for us and without waiting on God. This causes us to be weak in faith and to put God last. We have social media at our fingertips comparing our lives to others, Doordash getting food quickly, planes, etc. These are just some of the few examples of why we are so disconnected from God because we don't enjoy the process of life in the simple things. Don't get me wrong having food delivered to your house is a plus when you're not feeling well but if you're constantly going to get food delivered when you have food in the kitchen, you're perfectly healthy, then that in itself is something to evaluate yourself on like I said I can touch on a lot of things but let me stick to the topic.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.
If you're not a prodigal daughter now chances are you probably was before. You strayed from God you did what was pleasing in your sight and forgot all about God and tried to do things on your own. We are created to be dependent upon God not independent of ourselves. When we try to do things ourselves this create a bigger mess for God to clean up because it is Him who cleanse us, who remember our sins no more. We are the ones who tend to hold onto things that God has called us to let go of.
A prodigal daughter is simply a daughter who backslid or was disobedient to God in someway whether that be chasing money, fame, possessions, sin, etc. You are just like the prodigal son who left his father and came back once he realized what he had done and that he actually needed his father. It's the same way with our relationship with Jesus Christ we make the wrong choice , disobey God, backslide, choose something over him and you get to a place where nothing fulfills you the way Jesus does. Then you realize you need Him.
Dependent means requiring someone or something for financial, emotional, or other support. We require God for financial, emotional, spiritual support in all areas of life without Him we can do nothing. John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Sis, whether you are a prodigal daughter now or was one, the good news is that you realized you needed God... let that sink. Not a lot people realized they need God most people are pumped up with pride thinking highly of themselves but you sis you said "you know what I need Jesus". "I need healing". "I need savig" and I'm here to tell you that is completely normal and okay. Don't let this world or Satan or your flesh tell you otherwise. We have 3 enemies this world, satan and our flesh.
Repeat these Godly affirmations:
" I need Jesus because it is Him who gives me life, it is Him that is the way, it is Him that is the truth"
"I repent of my all my sins and God remembers my sins no more I am free because the son set me free"
"I am Loved"
" God choose me before I could ever choose Him"
"God has the final say in my case"
"This too shall pass."
"He has done it before, He will do it again."
"I am a winner".
"God is my helper."
"I am the Lord’s masterpiece . He will not abandon me."
You are here reading this for a reason and I believe God is going to set you free from all the bondage. There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Repent of your sins, confess it to God and let it go. God wants us to run to Him no matter how bad it may seem He will work it out for your good and that's a promise sis. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
When the prodigal son went back to His father he didn't know His father would accept Him, I'm sure he thought his father would've denied him but that was far from the truth. God will always accept you , he will always forgive you, he always show grace to you. Another lie from the enemy sounds something like this "you're better off alone, you don't need anyone, just do it yourself , this is your life." First off, our life isn't our own, God created us. Secondly, we aren't better off alone we need God and we need people. Let's stop thinking that we don't need God and people. Ecclesiastes 4:9Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
As Christian's sometimes it's easy to tune off the world and focus on God and forget about surrounding ourselves with people who will love on us. I'm guilty at this I'll go to church and soon as service over I leave, I never stay to chat with somebody new, I haven't joined any small group ( I tried ), I haven't served ( I tried), I don't know sometimes that feeling of being a prodigal daughter connects a lot with the feeling of feeling left out and/or the fear of missing out so you feel you have to gather all your possessions and isolate yourself as the prodigal son did.
The prodigal son in Luke 15 before he even ran away noticed how he always worked , it doesn't say if he spent time with his family or friends he just gathered his possessions and left. Let's not be like that let's choose to surround ourselves around people who will pour into our lives because I believe if the prodigal son had a community they could've talked him out of running away, prayed for him, loved on him, etc. I believe if you have a community sis they can pray for you, love on you, hold you accountable so you don't backslide, so you don't feel alone, so you don't create idols without knowing, and so much more we struggle with today.
When we don't have anyone to go to we may resort back to what we use to know.
Let's admit sometimes you can be in a room full of people, have the community, go to church, read your Bible, pray 3x a day, fast and all that and still feel loneliness. Still feel distant from God. Still feel drawn to idols. You wanna change but it feels impossible. That's because it is impossible but with God its possible. Matthew 19:26 God isn't expecting us to figure it all out. In fact, he said he knows the plans he has for us, so we aren't even meant to figuring out everything. We are meant to trust Him even if it feels scary. Jeremiah 29:11. We can't associate our faith and our feelings. Faith stands no matter what. Feelings come and go.
“But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends.
Luke 15:29-32 CSB
This is gonna be tough pill to swallow sis, but sometimes when we repent and we want to change our ways, not everyone will be happy for us. In all honesty, people will hurt you, through dirt on you, call you your past etc. The devil will use our past to try and keep us there but God said He'll do a new thing in our lives. Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. In this story, his own flesh and blood ( brother) was jealous that the father celebrated the son who went astray. He should've been glad his brother was okay but he thought about himself selfishly. Some people won't be proud of how far you've come in your walk with God your own family will despise you, treat you differently but know that God is always with you. God celebrates you. You was lost but now you are found. It reminds me of God leaving the 99 for the 1.
You are not alone sis, in fact did you know before I came to Christ in November 2021, I was lukewarm fresh out of Highschool, thinking I knew everything, I was like 19 years old and surely God humbled me. I would go to church still feeling empty. I felt just like the prodigal son. I choose anything over God I had no stable relationship with God. I would run back to him whenever I felt and he would welcome me and I'd go sin again and again. Till one day as I was reading my Bible I started to want to get to know God truly and change my ways. I was in a toxic narcissistic 2 year relationship that wasn't of God. It took that terrible heartbreak that God used for my good to bring me to him. I could cry typing this because gosh when I went through that GOD was with me. Anytime I felt pain I worshipped. He healed every thing broken. You know that saying:
Broken crayons still color
Then even after that, I came to Christ and ended up backsliding again in 2022. I was wreck. That time I really knew better. That time I felt so disconnected from God. I felt condemned , shame, guilt and anger toward God. I blamed him. Then once again, He healed me and accepted me into His loving arms. Now here I am a year later (2023) one year of abstinence to God be the glory. Sis learn from my mistakes, don't go back to your old ways, stay connected to Jesus. I love God too much to keep doing something that damaged our relationship and you have to want the same. None of this is overnight process. All of us struggle with different things and we should never abuse God's grace after all he knows our hearts he knows our thoughts and motives.
Psalm 34:18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Sin is “the act of going against God and His ways” (Roman's 3:23). It makes sense that, when we are going against something, we are separate from it. Even as Christians, our sin can continue to separate us from God’s fellowship. Sin is like a dark curtain pulled over a sunny window. The sun is still there, but the curtain creates a separation from its warmth and light. Repentance lifts the curtain and restores the relationship we once enjoyed (1 John 1:9). Any unconfessed sin in the life of a follower of Jesus can create a sense of separation from God. God does not leave us, but the light and warmth of fellowship was cut off when we chose sin. We do not lose our salvation, because Jesus paid our debt in full. We can lose the love, joy, and peace of the Holy Spirit when we persist in living apart from God.
Sis, maybe you are the prodigal daughter but you are God's daughter remember that. The same way the prodgial son father welcome him back and celebrated his change of heart. In this same way God rejoices with us and welcomes us when we repent and turn back to him. God loves you, He is your father, He will never leave nor forsake you. Nothing can separate us from God. He sent Jesus His only son to die for all sins for whoever believes in Him. No matter how far you've gone without god, how far you feel from God, your past mistakes, your current mistakes, the pain you're facing, etc. Know that if God is for you who can be against you? Notice how when the prodigal prodigal son returned he was ready to work for his father... sis are you ready to serve God? When we serve we show humility and meekness, it takes the focus off ourselves and glorifies God. The main reason so many people deal with anxiety is because they are thinking of themselves way too much, shift your focus. Let God be your perspective. Change your habits. According to google it takes about 60 days for a new habit to be formed. We have 169 days left of 2023. Sis, start now! The enemy can't stop our blessings and gifts from God but he can try to get us to be inconsistent. It's so easy to break a habit, you can go to school from kindergarten to 12th grade, and most people who don't go straight to college then find it hard to get the strength and discipline to go to college. Set alarms, write things down, get you an accountability partner, but whatever you do sis do not go back to what God has brought you out of. If you haven't been set free and sin still holding you bound confess it to Jesus and repent and believe that your deliverance from that sin or whatever it may be is on the way all you got to do is fast and pray.
“When the past calls, let it go to voicemail. It has nothing new to say, and you don’t have to listen. Would you really dig into yesterday’s garbage to make tonight’s meal? Do you dig into yesterday’s mental garbage to create today’s experiences?” — Louise Hay
“Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is to never look back.” — Sushil Jain
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess that I have wandered from You. I confess to You that I was caught up in the world, and I let my selfishness reign. I repent of my ways and ask for your forgiveness, Lord. You have promised that if I confess my sins, you will wash them clean and forgive me. Please forgive me, Lord. I feel like a prodigal daughter, but I want to return to You now. Thank You for forgiving me and for remaining faithful to me, even when I became faithless and foolish toward You. Thank You for welcoming me back in your loving arms. I pray that from this day forward, I may live the life that You would have me live. Draw close to me, as I draw close to You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
